CENTREVILLE, Mi.(VDN) — Vicksburg native Anthony Lumpkin has reached a long-awaited milestone in his basketball journey.

On Monday night, Lumpkin confirmed he has been named associate head basketball coach at Glen Oaks Community College, marking his first collegiate coaching position.

“I’m excited about this because coaching on the next level was the ultimate goal and now it’s here,” Lumpkin said.

The opportunity is the latest step in a coaching career that has steadily progressed across multiple states. In 2021, Lumpkin was named head coach at St. Aloysius High School, where he guided the Flashes to a playoff appearance. He also served as an assistant coach at Jefferson County High School before taking over the program at KIPP Preparatory School in California.

At KIPP, Lumpkin wore multiple hats as athletics director and head coach of both the boys and girls basketball teams. Under his leadership, both squads advanced to the CIF NorCal Tournament, further solidifying his reputation as a program builder.

Most recently, Lumpkin completed his inaugural season at Northgate High School, leading the team to a 22-6 record and a second-round playoff appearance.

Long before he patrolled the sidelines, Lumpkin made his mark on the court. A 1996 graduate of Warren Central High School, he was a standout player before continuing his career at South Florida Community College. He later starred at Southwest Oklahoma, where he emerged as a dominant force.

Following his collegiate career, Lumpkin spent 10 years playing professional basketball in the United States and overseas, gaining experience that now shapes his coaching philosophy.

With more than two decades of playing and coaching experience, Lumpkin’s appointment at Glen Oaks represents both a personal achievement and the realization of a goal he has chased for years.
