Applications open for 4th annual Bettye Smith Brown Scholarship

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Adrienne A. Mosley and Fayedra Brown-Dear are delighted to announce that applications are officially open for the fourth annual Bettye Smith Brown Memorial Scholarship at the Community Foundation for Mississippi.
Mosley and Brown-Dear launched the scholarship in 2022 to honor Bettye Smith Brown, their late mother. Smith Brown, a proud native of Vicksburg, was a staunch advocate of higher education and raised her daughters to pursue education as a means to combat poverty.
The Bettye Smith Brown Memorial Scholarship launches every year on January 28 to commemorate Bettye Smith Brown’s mother’s birthday. On this special day, the sisters are excited to invite high school seniors attending the Vicksburg Warren School District with a GPA of 3.5 or higher and who are Pell Grant-eligible to apply. Two outstanding students will receive at minimum a $10,000 scholarship to attend a four-year college or university. Applications can be found here.
Mosley and Brown-Dear also invite the community to donate to the Bettye Smith Brown Memorial Scholarship Endowment. Endowing the scholarship will ensure the scholarship lives on in perpetuity and continues to support students in Vicksburg.
Last year’s recipients were Adalyn Anderson and Tyra Bridges. Both attended Mississippi State University this last fall.
