Bassett, Nelson first Miss Mississippi 2024 preliminary winners
Vicksburg, Miss – The 2024 Miss Mississippi pageant is in full swing this week in Vicksburg. Last night was the first round of preliminaries, with those continuing tonight and Friday, with the final competition Saturday evening deciding who will be crowned the next Miss Mississippi.
Gracie Bassett, Miss Madison County, won the talent competition. She is a senior in the Honors College at Mississippi College where she is double majoring in biology and chemistry medical sciences. She plans to attend medical school with hopes of becoming a radiologist.
Bassett has donated her hair nine times to cancer patients, is a classically trained pianist, and is an avid volunteer, having given over 400 hours of community service. She also participated in the Distinguished Young Woman scholarship program in 2021 and won the state competition.
Morgan Nelson, Miss Mississippi State University took the top honor in evening wear. Morgan Nelson, a senior biological sciences major at Mississippi State University and a Vicksburg native, was recently selected to participate in the undergraduate portion of the Mississippi Rural Physicians Scholarship Program (MRPSP).
Nelson is a 2021 graduate of Warren Central High School, a member of the Mississippi State University Spirit Squad, and former Miss Vicksburg.
The journey continues this evening.
