Bauer Named Assistant Softball Coach at Co-Lin

WESSON – Terry Bauer begins his first season as assistant coach with Co-Lin Softball. The native of Mossville attended Stringer High School, where the early mornings and late nights on the diamond paid off by earning a baseball scholarship to Jones County Junior College, and later transferring to Livingston University – now known as the University of West Alabama – where his team finished fifth in the nation during the college world series in 1992. Bauer earned his Bachelor of Education degree in the spring of 1994.
Upon completion of his degree, Bauer accepted a teaching position at Chamberlin Hunt Academy in Port Gibson, MS. He taught 7th and 8th grade life science and earth science, and coached basketball, football, and baseball from 1994 to 1997.
In 1998, Bauer accepted a position as a high school health and biology teacher at Copiah Academy and transferred to be the assistant baseball coach, later earning the head baseball coach position. Bauer has been the head baseball coach and the assistant baseball coach multiple times throughout his coaching career at CA.
In 1999, Bauer took over the softball program at Copiah Academy as head coach. Between 1999 and 2024, Coach Bauer’s teams have earned success both on and off the ballfield, with an estimated 20 baseball scholarships and 30 softball scholarships earned by former athletes, one state championship in baseball (2010), five state championships in softball (2004, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014), and two alumni athletes currently playing in the MLB (Hunter Renfroe – Kansas City Royals, and Preston Johnson – Baltimore Orioles).
His record in softball currently stands at 671 wins, and 344 losses, making Coach Bauer the winningest active coach at Copiah Academy and in the MAIS.
Terry has been married to his wife, Cathy, for 26 years; they have four children, and nine grandchildren
