Blackmore and Brown advance to the state powerlifting meet
VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN) — Led by head coach Andre Bennett, the Vicksburg High School girls powerlifting team had two athletes qualify for the state meet after first-place finishes at the North State meet Wednesday.
Cedrionna Blackmore and Madyson Brown both secured spots in the final round, while three other Gators recorded at least one personal best performance.
Blackmore competed in the 220-pound weight class and finished first with a 770-pound total. She squatted 305 pounds, benched 160 pounds and deadlifted 305 pounds to advance to the state meet.
Brown competed in the 242-pound weight class and posted a 560-pound total. She squatted 195 pounds, benched 85 pounds and deadlifted 280 pounds (personal best). Brown tied for first place but was awarded second because her opponent weighed less. She advances to the state meet.
Jakeyla Curry finished fourth in the 148-pound weight class with a 515-pound total. She recorded a 175-pound squat, an 85-pound bench press and a 255-pound deadlift (personal best).
Kaitlyn Wallace placed fourth in the 165-pound weight class with a 360-pound total. She squatted 120 pounds, benched 65 pounds and deadlifted 200 pounds (personal best).
Rhania Sylvester finished fourth in the 242-pound weight class with a 530-pound total. She recorded a 145-pound squat, a 110-pound bench press and a 275-pound deadlift (personal best).
The state meet is scheduled for March 27 at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
