Carjacking at Circle K on Old 27, suspect in custody
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A white work truck was carjacked from the Circle K on Old 27 at Clay this morning at around 8:15 a.m. The suspect is in custody.
At about 8:15 a.m., a call came into the Vicksburg Warren 911 Call Center that a white Nissan Frontier had been carjacked at the Circle K on Old Highway 27 at Clay. The suspect was described as a black male who pushed the driver of the vehicle out of the way, got into the vehicle, and then drove it west on Clay, quickly turning southwest on Old Highway 27. The vehicle was a work truck belonging to O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, according to radio traffic. The truck driver was uninjured.
The suspect arrived at the Circle K in a black sedan. The suspect abandoned that vehicle at the Circle K. There is no current report if that car was stolen.
The original call to 911 identified the location of the carjacking as at the Circle K on Clay and Highway 27, an area that involves the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. Investigator Dustin Keyes assisted in the initial response and investigation, including immediately notifying the Clinton Police Department of the incident and vehicle description. About 20 minutes after the carjacking, the stolen vehicle was spotted eastbound on I-20 in Clinton by the Clinton Police Department, who had been alerted to the incident. The stolen work truck was stopped at about the 37-mile marker, and the driver was arrested without incident.
Vicksburg Police Captain Curtis Judge spoke with the Vicksburg Daily News, saying, “We are early in the investigation, but it appears it was a crime of opportunity. We are thankful no one was injured in the incident and encourage citizens to turn off their vehicle and take the keys with them anytime they get out of their vehicle.”
Arrested was Christopher Gray, 34. No address was given.
