VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A ski boat with three children and one adult aboard hit a barge on the Yazoo Diversion Canal. All four were injured.
At about 4:30 p.m. this afternoon, a ski boat hit a parked barge on the canal. According to a family member, the driver was somehow distracted and struct the corner of the barge. A nearby boater, Javier Brown, rendered assistance and attempted to tow the boat back to city front, which was about a mile away.
However, the boat was taking on too much water and the tow attempt was abandoned. The boat now rests on the bank of the Yazoo Diversion Canal, according to authorities.
The adult and children were able to safely get aboard another vessel and were taken to city front where an ambulance was waiting.
The adult male is being treated for injuries to his leg and head. One of the children was also transported to a Jackson hospital with the adult. The other two children got into a vehicle with a family member and followed the ambulance.
The incident remains under investigation by local authorities.
