VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Carolyn Inez Hynum, aged 86, passed away on April 3, 2025.

She was a beloved Mother, Granny, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn was born on May 4, 1938, in Sandhill, MS., and made her life in Vicksburg, MS., where she raised her family. She was a welder for 20 years at Marathon LeTourneau where she was known for her strong work ethic and her welding ability as a woman, paving the way for many future female welders and later retiring from Isle of Capri.

Carolyn Hynum was a devoted mother, and her favorite position of all was being a Granny. She loved spending time with her family, sharing stories, and watching them as they grew and succeeded in life. She was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement for all her loved ones.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Marcus and Nora Case, her late husband William S. Hynum, son-in-laws Joe D. Chapin and Richard A. Gordon, and a grandson Jody W. Chapin.

She is survived by her children Debra Emery (Louis), Tammy Chapin, Patti Gordon, William “Marc” Hynum (Jenny), and Billie Jo Wagner (Mark), her grandchildren John Harrigill (Marsha), Justin Harrigill, Amy Peebles, Christie Irons (Chris), Angela Chapin, Jason Gordon (Casey), Rani Oswalt (Andrew), Kristy Gordon, Blake Hynum, Austin Hynum (Kristen), Chelsea Wagner, Madilyn Hardwick (Trent), and Tiffany Heath (Travis), as well as 28 great grandkids, and 2 great-great grandkids.

A visitation will be held at Glenwood Funeral Home on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 5:00 P.M. till 7:00 P.M.

Memorials may be made to Blair E. Baston Children’s Hospital or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
