J.C. Gale: 1957-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss (VDN) — Funeral services for J.C. Gale are to be held on Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m.

The Reverend Richard Johnson will officiate in the chapel of W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Interment shall follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday March 14 in the funeral home from 5 to 6 p.m.

J.C. Gale passed away on February 26 in the University Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 68.  

He was preceded in death by his parents J.C. Gale, Sr and Ella Mae Maxwell Gale, his brothers Williams James Gale and Robert Curtis Gale.

He is survived by his brothers Wayne Gale of Jackson and Christopher Gale of Bogalusa, LA and his sisters Cheryl Simpson and Joyce Gale both of Vicksburg and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and others. 

W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home

W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home has been an integral part Vicksburg since 1894. Founded by William Henry and Lucy Jefferson, the first African-American funeral director in the state of Mississippi. Grandmother Lucy Jefferson was a leader in education. 

They are honored on the New Beginnings and Lasting Legacies mural on the Vicksburg Riverfront Murals.

W. H. Jefferson Funeral Home has been in the same location for over a half century. The business is co-owed today by family members James E. Jefferson, Jr., and his uncle, Robert. Sr.
