Ina “Susie” Roddey: 1957-2025

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (VDN) — Ina “Susie” Marie Roddey passed away on Friday, March 28, 2025. She was 67 years old.  Susie was born in Houston, TX on September 8, 1957, to Peggy Jo Verrett and Robert Ray Crowder.

Susie was born and raised in Houston, TX where she lived until she met a traveling welder and got married at the age of 19.  She was then whisked away from city life to the small town of Port Gibson, MS, where she lived out the rest of her days.

Susie worked on road construction crews for several years where she learned to drive bulldozers and all of the other equipment.  She then went on to work 24 years for the Vicksburg Post Office as a Rural Route Carrier.  Susie never me at stranger and would jump at the chance to help anyone.  She loved spending time with her family and friends.  She also enjoyed crocheting and collecting rocks and gemstones.

Susie is preceded in death by her mother Peggy Jo Verrett, step father Arthur Verrett, father Robert Ray Crowder, brother Sammy Crowder, sister Marie Fowler and daughter-in-law Angelia Roddey.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years Buddy Carl Roddey of Port Gibson, MS; her brother Garrett Crowder of South Carolina; her son Christopher Roddey of North Carolina; her daughter Angela Sibley (Billy) of Vicksburg, MS; her 8 grandchildren Matthew Roddey, Dylan Roddey and Chadyn Roddey of North Carolina; Carley Boone (Josh) and Brittany Arnold (Sam) of Mississippi and Morgan Williams (Austin) of North Carolina; Nathan Sibley and  Alexia Sibley of Mississippi. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends who will forever hold her in the hearts.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Buddy’s Place in Port Gibson, MS.

Memorials may be made in her honor to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.
