Charles Edmond named HBCU Sports Broadcaster of the Year

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg resident Charles Edmond has been named the HBCU Sports Broadcaster of the Year for the second consecutive year. The award was announced Saturday by HBCU Sports.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Edmond is a 1986 graduate of University City High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Grambling State University in 1991. In addition to his HBCU coverage, Edmond also serves as a radio broadcaster for Vicksburg High School football games.

Throughout his career, Edmond has earned numerous honors for his work in broadcasting, including:

  • Excellence in Broadcasting Award Competition, 1997
  • Sports Coverage Promotion of a Sporting Event: Alcorn vs. Southern University, 1998
  • Sports Coverage Promotion of a Sporting Event: Faculty, Alcorn vs. Texas Southern University, 2000
  • Sports Coverage Promotion: ASU Football Promo, 2003
  • Faculty Sports Coverage Broadcast of a Sporting Event: Coaches Show
