City adopts $33,184,792 budget
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously adopted the 2026 city budget for $33,184,792.
“We do have a balanced budget and following protocol and being compliant with state law, we have to have this budget adopted, so that’s what we’re doing,” said Mayor Willis Thompson.
The budget projects a $1.17 million increase in revenue, with the single largest revenue increase coming from real and business property taxes.
Most departments, including Administration, Legal, Court, Clerk, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Services, Traffic, Ambulance, Inspections, Public Works, Street, City Services, Animal Control, and Mosquito Control show a decrease in projected expenditures in the 2026 budget.
Both the fire and police departments anticipate increased expenditures for 2026. The police department is increasing personnel costs and capital expenditures, with capital expenditures increasing by over $280,000. The projected increase in the fire department is almost entirely due to increases in personnel costs.
