Rivalry Week Returns as Vicksburg, Warren Central Meet in Red Carpet Bowl
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — It’s officially rivalry week in the Red Carpet Bowl. The Gators and Vikings meet once each year to battle for bragging rights over the next 365 days.
Warren Central won last year’s matchup 21-13. Each of the past four games has been decided by one touchdown or less, with the Vikings currently holding a 13-game winning streak over VHS that began in 2012.
Both teams enter the game with 2-1 records. Warren Central is coming off a 52-41 victory over Germantown, while Vicksburg suffered its first loss of the season last week, falling 48-22 to Ridgeland.
In recent years, the rivalry has been marked by strong defensive performances, but the intensity of the matchup often leads to unpredictable results.
The Vikings will feature quarterback Nash Morgan, who is coming off one of his best games after rushing for 188 yards with three rushing touchdowns and one passing touchdown. The Gators will counter with quarterback Jamikal Maxey, who threw three touchdown passes two weeks ago against Forest Hill.
Vicksburg is led by head coach Christopher Lacey, while Warren Central is led by head coach Josh Morgan. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Warren Central.
