City receives single bid of $1.6M for VCC retaining wall
The City of Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Alderman received a single bid of more than $1.6M for the Vicksburg Convention Center retaining wall project.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg Board of Mayor and Alderman received a single bid of more than $1.6M for the Vicksburg Convention Center retaining wall project.
The project is for the repairing and replacing deteriorating portions of the existing soldier pile and timber lagging wall along with the installation or improvements of the drainage system for the convention center.
Currently, due to the drainage system in place, water erosion has damaged the timber of the retaining wall located under the center’s basement. The project entails adding a cement barrier to help maintain the stability of the structure. Additionally, further drainage system installments will be made to help prevent the issue moving forward.
All bids for the project were due by Monday, Aug. 3, for the bids to be opened at the regally scheduled BOMA meeting.
City of Vicksburg Civil Engineer Brian Robbins appeared before the Board to open the sealed bid.
The lone bid was from Hemphill Construction Company, Inc., in the amount of $1,640,043.75.
Hemphill has been in operation since 1963 and according to their website provides multifaceted construction services for government and private owners throughout the Southeast.
The Board voted in favor of taking the bid under consideration.
