The inspection happens once a year at the city garage on China Street in downtown Vicksburg. “The purpose is to make sure Rocket Taxi Cab, the only taxi cab here in Vicksburg, to make sure that when they’re picking up people the vehicles are safe and reliable,” said new City Clerk Deborah Nichson.

Lisa Palmertree did a part of the inspection on behalf of the city, “I’m making sure the headlights work, turn signals speedometer…basically checking the vehicle. Then there is also the mechanical inspection form.”

Nichson added, “Every function, brakes…the mechanic has a list they check off. If anything is wrong they have to get it fixed to pass inspection. Anything. They can’t pick up a person unless they fix it. Then they have to bring it back to be reinspected.”
