DeAndre King’s Coaching Journey

DeAndre King, a Vicksburg native, has been hired as an assistant basketball coach at Morris College in South Carolina.

King will serve as an assistant coach and recruiting coach for the Lady Hornets this season under head coach Jenone Bell.

King’s Background and Achievements

“It’s a dream come true, and I can’t thank God enough for this opportunity and the future blessings,” King said. “My wife and family have been my biggest supporters throughout all of this, and it wouldn’t be possible without them, so I thank them for everything.”

King is a 2014 graduate of Vicksburg High School, where he played basketball under head coach Dellie C. Robinson. The Gators made a state championship appearance during King’s senior season.

Following his high school career, King continued playing at Hinds Community College. He later spent several years playing semiprofessional basketball in the American Basketball Association.

King eventually transitioned into coaching and has made stops at Vicksburg Junior High School, Porter’s Chapel Academy, Shorter College and Southeastern Baptist College.

King earned Vicksburg Daily News Junior High Girls Basketball Coach of the Year honors in 2022 while coaching at Porter’s Chapel Academy. He guided the Lady Eagles to a 17-7 record that season, marking the program’s first winning season in recent years.

King will now take the next step in his coaching career at Morris College. His first official season with the Lady Hornets begins in October.
