Delvin Thompson Sr. selected as North/South All-Star Game Head Coach
CARTHAGE, Miss. (VDN) — Leake Central High School head basketball coach Delvin Thompson Sr. has been selected to serve as a Head Coach in the Mississippi North/South All-Star Basketball Game, according to the Mississippi Association of Coaches’ recent announcement.
Thompson, now in his second year leading the Gators, has quickly built a reputation for success. In his first season, he guided Leake Central to a district championship and an impressive 23-8 record, including a deep playoff run that marked one of the school’s strongest seasons in recent years.
Before arriving at Leake Central, Thompson spent a season at Choctaw Central High School, where he also led the team to a district title. His coaching career has also included stints at St. Aloysius and Jefferson County High School, where he developed a reputation for strong leadership and player development.
As a player, Thompson starred at Alcorn State University, scoring 1,345 points in just three seasons—ranking third all-time among three-year players in school history. He was named the SWAC Newcomer of the Year in 2004-05 and earned All-Conference honors twice. On Nov. 11, 2006, he scored 15 points in 23 minutes against Texas while being guarded by future NBA star Kevin Durant.
Thompson averaged 15.8 points per game during his collegiate career. After earning his bachelor’s in education in 2007 and a master’s in secondary education/guidance education in 2011, he played professionally in Mexico and Germany before returning to coach at Alcorn State University.
Now, with his North/South All-Star coaching selection, Thompson continues to build on an already distinguished career in Mississippi basketball. The North/South All-Star Basketball Games are scheduled for Friday, March 20 & Saturday, March 21, 2026 at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton, MS.
