PORT GIBSON, Miss. (VDN) — Former Port Gibson High School football standout D’Marious Hicks is returning to the Blue Waves, this time on the sidelines. Hicks has been named assistant coach and defensive backs coach for the program, the school announced in a Facebook post.
A 2019 graduate of PGHS, Hicks was a dynamic dual-threat quarterback during his high school career. As a sophomore, he passed for 964 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing for 1,355 yards and 12 touchdowns. His junior season was equally impressive, as he led the Blue Waves to a 10-4 record, throwing for 800 yards and 11 touchdowns and adding 1,087 rushing yards with 11 more scores.
In his senior year, he capped his career with 1,189 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, cementing his status as one of the program’s top offensive weapons in recent years.
Following high school, Hicks continued his football career at Alcorn State University, bringing his athleticism and leadership to the collegiate level.
Now back at his alma mater, Hicks will look to help guide the next generation of Blue Waves players. Port Gibson opens its 2025 season on the road Aug. 29 against Raymond High School.
