Freshman Mallory Spencer strikes out 13 batters to lead St. Al over CCA

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Freshman pitcher Mallory Spencer dominated in the circle Thursday night, striking out 13 batters to lead St. Aloysius to an 11-5 victory over Clinton Christian. The win improved the Lady Flashes to 3-0 in district play and 9-7 overall.

The game was scoreless until the third inning, when both teams broke through at the plate. Clinton Christian struck first with two runs, but St. Al answered with an explosive eight-run inning. Mageigh Haller delivered a double, followed by a two-run single from Madelyn Kavanaugh to give the Lady Flashes the lead. Madison Spencer added a triple, while Kennadi Blassingame, Presley Brister and Lynlee McMillin each drove in runs with singles.

By the end of the fifth inning, St. Al had extended its lead to 11-3 behind a triple from Blassingame and singles from Haller and Brister. Clinton Christian added two more runs, but Spencer closed the door with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.

Brister led St. Al at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Blassingame (two hits, three RBIs), Haller (two hits, two RBIs) and Madison Spencer (two hits, one RBI) also made key contributions. Kavanaugh (one hit, two RBIs), Megan Theriot, Mallory Spencer and McMillin each finished with one hit.

The Lady Flashes will be back in action Monday when they travel to play Central Hinds.
