Grand Gulf Hosts 300+ Students for Nuclear Science Week

PORT GIBSON, MS – Grand Gulf Nuclear Station hosted more than 300 students to celebrate Nuclear Science Week and learn all about clean, carbon-free nuclear power and the opportunities the industry provides.
Middle school and high school students from Vicksburg and surrounding counties toured the training building and did hands-on activities to learn about what employees do every day to continue making electricity. They learned different craft trades, how IT plays a critical role advancing innovation and technology, what radiation protection technicians do to keep employees and the communities safe, and how a chemistry technician takes samples in the plant, and so much more.
“We want students from Mississippi to get excited about nuclear power and come work at Grand Gulf,” said Brad Kapellas, Grand Gulf site vice president. “The nuclear industry has so many opportunities for students looking for a career and Grand Gulf is such a wonderful place to work.”
Entergy employees and Day and Zimmerman contract partners volunteered their time to organize activities for the students. Alcorn University sent representatives from their Applied Science and Advanced Technology department to demonstrate various robotics for students.
Nuclear Science Week is an international, week-long celebration to focus on the benefits of nuclear power. Nuclear power is a safe source of affordable, clean, carbon-free electricity that is reliable 24/7/365.
