Students enrolled in the Al-Tri Generational Program at the Kings Empowerment Center had the chance to witness firsthand how their local government works.

Program Director Dexter Jones explained the program was for children aged 5-17 years old. The program takes the children from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. It presents opportunities to expose the kids to a wide range of activities such as visiting their local government entities to inspire further leadership.

“We want them to grow, to experience life, and to experience things they might not otherwise have access to,” said Jones. “The objective is to make these kids productive citizens within the confines of Warren County, but also, that they see they have to opportunity to become who they see sitting up there on the Board of Supervisors.”

District 1 Supervisor Ed Herring commented on the children’s presence.

“The one thing I would add, is that they are already 10 steps ahead of me because I never would have sat still that long and been that quiet when I was their age,” said Herring.
