Vicksburg is no stranger to tales of lingering spirits and mysterious hauntings. Now it prepares  to transform into a hub of eerie festivities. Whether you’re a thrill-seeker chasing ghostly encounters at McRaven or simply looking for some festive fun, Vicksburg has something spine-tingling for everyone this month. Dive into our line-up of events and get ready to embrace the supernatural side of Vicksburg!

Tours:

  • McRaven Tour Home Haunted Tours:
    • Duration: Throughout the month
    • Description: Experience the chilling stories of one of the most haunted houses in the South with a costumed guide. McRaven is haunted year-round.
    • Special Notes: Aside from the haunted tours, history tours and monthly ghost hunts are also offered. Private haunted tours for groups of 4 or more can be arranged during weekdays.

Special Events by Date:

  • Oct. 14:
    • Event: Mulberry Movie Night: Horror Edition – Halloween
    • Time: Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Movie starts at 7:00 p.m. to 3 a.m.
    • Location: 1310 Mulberry St.
    • Description: An exclusive movie night, showing Halloween (2018). Only 15 tickets available.
    • Specials: Full bistro menu, Pulled Pork Sliders, specialty cocktails, and standard concessions like popcorn, candy, chips, etc.
    • Tickets: $15 general admission
  • Oct. 17:
    • Event: McRaven Candlelight Tour (RSVP link)
    • Time: 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
    • Location: McRaven – 1445 Harrison St.
    • Description: McRaven is a centerpiece in the ghostly town of Vicksburg. Join them for a candlelight tour, equipped with spooky “spirits” and finger foods. The event is sponsored by Lindsey Dedaux, State Farm Agent.
  • Oct. 21:
    • Event: Witches’ Brunch at the Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation
    • Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Location: Southern Culture Heritage Center, 1302 Adams Street, in the haunted SCHF Convent.
    • Description: The Southern Cultural Heritage Center presents the 2nd Annual “Witches’ Brunch” on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This brunch will take place in the haunted SCHC Convent (corner of Adams and Crawford Streets). Grab your finest pointy hat, most magical cloak, and broom for this wickedly fabulous event with your fellow witches! Cackle your way into a great time with Halloween-themed food, special libations, music, and more!! The best witch costume will win a prize! Don’t miss your chance to join this coven of fun!!
    • Tickets: $30.00
  • Oct. 23:
    • Event: Merit Health Trunk or Treat
    • Time: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Fees/Admission: This event is free to the public.
    • Location: Merit Health/River Region, Hwy 61 North, Vicksburg
  • Oct. 24:
    • Event: Trunk or Treat
    • Time: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
    • Location: Pemberton Mall
    • Description: This is the 6th annual Trunk-or-Treat event brought to you by the partnership of Vicksburg Family Development Service, Inc., River Ridge Behavioral Health, United Way of West Central Mississippi, the Vicksburg Police Department and members of the Make a Promise Drug Free Coalition. Families will be able to get out of their cars and walk to the different trunks full of treats. (Please, no scary trunk decorations)
  • Oct. 26:
    • Event: Well-O-Ween Health Fair
    • Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Location: Medical Associates building at 2080 S. Frontage Road
    • Description: The Medical Associates Well-O-Ween health fair will offer glucose checks, blood pressure checks, music, costumes and door prizes. For more information, email vicksburgbhtnetworking@gmail.com.
  • Oct. 26:
    • Event: Drive-Thru Trunk or Treat
    • Time: 5:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.
    • Location: Hinds Community College Vicksburg Campus
    • Description: Hinds Community College is bringing back its drive-thru trunk or treat event on Thursday, Oct. 26. The sweet treats are free, but a food truck will be present on campus throughout the day for people to purchase food. The community is invited to come drive-thru and pick up something sweet. (Please enter from Highway 27)
  • Oct 26 & 28:
    • Event: “It’s Fall Y’all Carnival” presented by the Southern Cultural Heritage Center
    • Date/Time for Daycares & Schools: Thursday, October 26th, 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Cost: $7 per child or $5 per child for groups of 10 or more. Reservations required.
    • Date/Time for Public: Saturday, October 28th, 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Features: DJ, Egg Roll Love food truck, libations, and carnival games. Tickets: Carnival only – $5 per person; haunted house (includes carnival) – $15 per person.
    • Location: Courtyard on the corner of Cherry and Crawford Streets.
    • Description: A festive carnival with activities like decorating pumpkins, jump houses, carnival games like corn hole, limbo, and more. Games come with small prizes and treats. Evening includes spooky music and the “Tunnel of Terror Haunted House.”
    • Tickets: Available at the gate, online at Eventbrite.com, or by calling the SCHF office at 601-631-2997.
  • Oct. 27 – 29:
    • Event: Halloween Camping Event at Askew’s Landing
    • Description: Join us for a memorable Halloween weekend at Askew’s Landing! Activities include dressing up, site decoration, trick or treating, community gathering around the fire, fishing, kayaking, music, dancing, karaoke, outdoor games, and mouth-watering barbecue. A spine-chilling good time awaits the entire family.
  • Oct. 27:
    • Event: Park After Dark at MCM & MMNS
    • Time: 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
    • Description: Joint event by Mississippi Children’s Museum and MDWFP’s Museum of Natural Science. Spooky science and family activities include creepy-crawly art, trick and treat hunts, and exploring LeFleur’s Bluff Playground. Wrap up the evening with special entertainment at The Den.
    • Special Features: Spotter’s Adventure Trail between the two museums, Costume Parade, Scarecrow Trail, Zombie Zumba in The Den.
    • Activities at MCM: Shrinky Dinks, Ghosts Experiment, Crafts in WonderBox, Sensory Bottles, and more.
    • Activities at MMNS: Bats presentation, Frankenstein experiments, Ghost Stories, Witch’s Cauldron Game, and more.
    • Tickets: $12 per person (includes both museums). Purchase at www.mschildrensmuseum.org or on-site. General admission tickets and memberships not valid for this event.
    • Location: Mississippi Children’s Museum and MDWFP’s Museum of Natural Science.
  • Oct. 27 – 29:
    • Event: Halloween Weekend @ Askew’s Landing
    • Description: Celebrate Halloween at Askew’s Landing! Activities include dressing up, site decoration, trick or treating, community gathering around the fire, fishing, kayaking, music, dancing, karaoke, outdoor games, and delicious barbecue. An event filled with spooky fun suitable for the entire family.

  • Oct. 28:
    • Event: Halloween Carnival at Warren County Vicksburg Public Library
    • Time: 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
    • Description: A festive carnival boasting books, prizes, candy, and games. Guests are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.
  • Oct. 28:
    • Event: Porters Chapel Fall Festival
    • Time: 5:30 p.m. – 8 a.m.
    • Location: Porters Chapel football field
    • Description: Porters Chapel is hosting a fall festival, complete with food, a silent auction, dunking booth, games, a petting zoo and much more!
    • Tickets: Admission is $5 – (Bring cash for more fun)
  • Oct. 28:
    • Event: SCHC presents the “Tunnel of Terror Haunted House”
    • Time: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
    • Description: The Southern Cultural Heritage Center presents the “Tunnel of Terror Haunted House”. Navigate through the convent and the eerie tunnels in the inner courtyard of the Southern Cultural Heritage Center. Prepare to encounter ghosts, skeletons, dolls, clowns, and other haunting figures. The journey ends at the “It’s Fall Y’all” carnival featuring kids’ games, a DJ, Egg Roll Love Food Truck, a jump house, and treats for adults.
    • Tickets: $15 (includes entry to the carnival). Available at the gate, online at Eventbrite.com, or by calling the SCHF office at 601-631-2997.
  • Oct. 29
    • Event: Trunk or Treat at Highland Baptist Church
    • Time: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
    • Location: 3518 Halls Ferry Road
    • Description: Costumes are welcome, but please no scary ones.

  • Oct. 29 & 30:
    • Event: After-Hour Antebellum Ghost Tour
    • Time: 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.
    • Location: Anchuca, 1st East Street
    • Description: Delve into Vicksburg’s haunting antebellum past guided by the experts from the Mississippi Paranormal Society’s investigative team.
    • Tickets: $68 general admission
  • Oct. 30-31, Nov. 1 & 3:
    • Event: “Radium Girls” by D.W. Gregory presented by Hinds Community College’s Lendon Players
    • Time: House opens at 6 p.m., Show starts at 7 p.m.
    • Description: A gripping drama based on the true story of female laborers poisoned by radium-based paint in the early 20th century. The narrative is mainly centered on events in New Jersey during the mid-1920s.
    • Special Feature: Oct. 31 performance includes a Halloween costume contest with prizes.
    • Tickets: $8 for general admission; $5 for students.
    • Location: Brooks Theatre, Raymond Campus, Hinds Community College.
  • Oct. 31:
    • Event: Trunk or Treat at Vicksburg Intermediate School
    • Time: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Description: Vicksburg Intermediate School will be hosting a trunk or treat open to the public.
    • Location: Vicksburg Intermediate School, 1245 Dana Rd, Vicksburg
