There was a heavy presence of deputies and campus police at Warren Central this morning.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said, “The Vicksburg Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred yesterday involving teenagers. Any time there is a major incident in our community involving teenagers, I will ramp up the presence at the high school as a preventative measure. That is all that has occurred today and that is in coordination with campus police.”

An eyewitness described yesterday’s shooting on Alcorn Drive as a shootout with at least 20 rounds fired. One person was driven to an area hospital with a gunshot wound in the mouth, according to sources. A carload of 5 individuals were seen fleeing the scene, and a BOLO (Be One the Look Out) was issued for the vehicle. Moments later, Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies stopped a vehicle matching that description on Highway 80 near Ironwood. That vehicle had bullet damage, and all five occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody. Only 2 remain in custody today.

Parents and students should anticipate a heavy presence of law enforcement at the schools anytime teenagers are involved.
