Jimmy Nelson Kendrick, Sr: 1949-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Jimmy Nelson Kendrick, Sr. passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 at age 75 at Merit Health Hospital after battling health issues. Jimmy was born in Bassfield, MS on February 15, 1949 to Garmon and Myrtle Kendrick. He was one of nine children.
He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the U.S. Army. He continued his loyalty to the military by contributing to Veteran related organizations. He settled in Vicksburg for 50+ years. Jimmy was a longtime member of St. Paul Catholic Church as a faithful convert. Jimmy wore many hats in job history; Electrician, Insurance Agent, Convenience Store owner and lastly retiring from Cal-Maine Foods in Edwards, MS as Feed Mill Manager with 25 years of service. In retirement, Jimmy enjoyed travel, watching westerns, college football, weekly card games with his buddies and rocking in his chair on his front porch.
He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Gerald, Floyd, Danny, Lynette and his late wife, Ethel Towne Kendrick.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Nancy Thompson Kendrick; children, Connie (Sarah) Bienvenu, Jimmy Kendrick, Jr. (Ginny); his step-sons, Chris Libbey (Liz Curtis), Seth Libbey; granddaughters, Katelyn, Mary Claire, Kate and Lizzie; siblings, Earl, Kendall, Richard and Betty Dickerson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Dr. Joseph Blackston, his nurse, Jami Appleton; the late Dr. Bill Pierce, Dr. Paul Pierce, Dr. Sam Pierce, the V. A. Medical Center, Merit Health, companions, Rosie, Princess, Linda, Arden Home Health employees Shannon Lyons, Cari, Gretta; Suneet Dixon (P. T.) and Brenda Hayes (Vital Care). Your love and support will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27 from Noon until 2 pm at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue with a memorial service to follow. Interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or St. Paul Catholic Church, 713 Crawford St. Vicksburg, MS 39180 or any veteran related organization.
