Mulligan and Terrell

Story from JSU Athletics:
WACO, Texas | Fresh off winning the 2024 Cricket Celebration Bowl Irv Mulligan and Travis Terrell Jr. were honored by FCS Stats Perform with selections to the All-American and Freshman All-America teams announced on Wednesday.

Both players were instrumental in Jackson State finishing 12-2 on the season with the second longest active winning streak in FCS football at 10 straight wins dating back to September 28. The Tigers also won the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship for the third time in four years, the 2024 Cricket Celebration Bowl, and the HBCU National Championship.

After missing the first two games of the season, Mulligan – a Third Team All-American selection – was inserted into the starting lineup with the Tigers dropping just one game in the stretch. He finished the season with 1,265 yards rushing on 205 carries and 13 touchdowns, recording the sixth-best single-season total in school history and the best since 1999. His 13 rushing touchdowns led the conference and he also led the conference with six 100-yard rushing games including four consecutive that featured a 187-yard performance against Mississippi Valley State.

With just two weeks of FCS football remaining, Mulligan sits 11th in the nation in rushing yards, 11th in rushing yards per game (103.8), 20th in rush yards per carry (6.07), 21st in rushing touchdowns, 29th in total touchdowns (13), 40th in all-purpose yards (107.00), and 64th in scoring (6.5). He was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award (National Player of the Year) and the HBCU+ National Player of the Year Award and was also named the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year.

Meanwhile, Terrell earned his second Freshman All-American honor, with a season that had him ranked among the best in the nation in returns. He leads the nation in kick returns for touchdowns with two (one each against Texas Southern and Alabama A&M) and is ranked in the top five nationally in three other categories. He is third in punt returns (16.7), fourth in combined kick returns (851), fifth in kickoff returns (30.6), and 36th in all-purpose yards (108.08). He also had an 80-yard punt return called back against South Carolina State in the Celebration Bowl.

Terrell was named a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award this season, SWAC Freshman of the Year, First Team All-SWAC, and Freshman All-American by FCS Football Central earlier this month.
