Kealon Bass signs baseball scholarship to Southwest Mississippi CC
Vicksburg High School baseball player Kealon Bass signed a collegiate scholarship to play at Southwest Mississippi Community College. He chose Southwest CC over Southern University at New Orleans, who previously offered him a chance to play.
“I feel like it’s a great fit for me and I know I can improve my game there,” Bass said.
Bass began playing baseball at the age of seven and quickly found himself starring on varsity as a ninth grader. He made the All-District all four years in high school.
Starring as a pitcher and shortstop, Bass earned his respect as he helped VHS to their first district title since 2009 in his 2022 sophomore year. He finished with a .386 batting average and 21 RBIs that year and he also led the Gators to another district championship as a junior under former VHS Coach Antonio Calvin.
“Winning district felt great because we achieved everything we worked for and that will always be a good memory,” Bass said.
In his senior year, Bass was under the leadership of Coach Kent Willis where VHS clinched another playoff spot.
Bass mentioned that he always knew the day would come when someone would embrace his true talents and give him an offer.
“I knew since the 10th grade that I would be playing in college so I always kept myself motivated, he added.
Besides being a dominant baseball athlete, Bass was also a true star on the basketball team that made it to the second round of the playoffs two years in a row.
Bass thanked his parents, coaches, and teammates for sticking with him throughout the years as he is all set to play college baseball.
Kealon will be majoring in engineering and he is the son of Richard Bass and April Stone.
