Lady Eagles secured a 40-21 win over Hillcrest Christian
Vicksburg, Miss.-Porter’s Chapel Academy girls’ basketball team came off of Christmas break hot as they secured a 40-21 win over Hillcrest Christian on Tuesday night. Sophie Masterson and Marley Bufkin both ended the game by scoring in double digits as they finished with 22 and 12 points.
“I’m glad we came out on top and I’m proud of my teammates for finishing out strong,” Masterson said. “We’re going to keep being aggressive going into Friday and aim for another win.”
After being down 16-10 at halftime, PCA was forced to make some quick adjustments to get back into the game. Masterson nailed a key 3-pointer in the third quarter while Bufkin came away with a couple of layups. The Lady Eagles’ defense stepped up in the second half as they only allowed a total of five points late in the game.
Masterson popped two more 3-pointers in fourth quarter along with a few free throws to take the lead. Audrey Carraway also successfully made some late shots from the free throw line.
Masterson led with a double-double as she grabbed 10 rebounds to go with her 22 points. Bufkin had 12 points and five steals while Carraway added three points. Kendall Smith scored two points and collected five rebounds while Lexi Whittington hit a free throw to go with her two steals and two rebounds.
PCA will travel to play River Oaks Academy on Friday.
