“We worked really hard, and I’m glad that we didn’t have to go into an overtime shootout,” senior captain Taryn Lusby said. “We still have a lot of hard work to do, but we’re really working hard as a team.”

The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams holding each other scoreless. The deadlock was broken seven minutes into the second half when Mary Ruth Montgomery scored the game’s lone goal from the left side.

“That felt amazing,” Montgomery said. “This was a big win, and now we just need to put the next couple of teams away.”

The Lady Flashes’ defense proved key in securing the win. Goalkeeper Sarah Smith recorded seven saves. Late in the match, ACCS threatened to score, but Megan Theriot stepped in to halt the attempt.

St. Aloysius will travel to face Manchester Academy on Friday.
