A sheriff’s deputy who was shot in Lauderdale County this morning will make a full recovery, Sheriff Billy Sollie said.

According to the Scotty Ray Report out of Meridian, a Lauderdale County Deputy was shot apprehending a murder suspect this morning.

Ray reports that a fatal shooting took place Thursday night at a home.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation received notification of the incident at approximately 5:45 a.m. Initial reports indicate that the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department was investigating that domestic-related homicide from Thursday night when deputies encountered the possible suspect in the homicide. After a brief pursuit, an exchange of gunfire between the subject and law enforcement occurred.

During the exchange, the deputy was injured and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect has been taken into custody and transported to the Lauderdale County Jail.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
