Linda Hampton Rowland 1946-2026
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Ms. Linda Hampton Rowland, age 79, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 1, 2026 following a long hard battle with cancer.
Linda was born on December 27, 1946, in Vicksburg, MS to James V. Hampton, Sr. and Mae Bell Morris Hampton. After high school, Linda attended Hinds Community College graduating with her associate’s degree. She took a position as a Teller with Merchants National Bank and advanced to head of the Proofing Department. She retired from Bancorp South with over 40 years of service in banking. Linda was known for her fiery spirit, deep love for family and a lifetime devotion to charitable causes. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life not the sadness of her passing.
In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her brother, James “Buddy” Hampton, and brothers-in-law, Tommy Keen and Gordon Evans.
She is survived by her daughter Stephanie Patrick (Wade), son Shane Rowland (Brandy), brother Larry Hampton (Pricilla), sisters Patricia Keen, Sharon Evans and Jewel Dean McCain (Fred), sister-in-law Dean Hampton, grandchildren Ashley Rowland Arriaga (Devin) and Reese Caroline Rowland, great grandchildren Lucia Renee Arriaga and Cecilia Luis Arriaga, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery in Vicksburg, MS. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Glenwood Funeral Home.
