Man trapped in Sewer access on Bazinsky Road

VICKSBURG, MS. – At around 11 a.m., authorities received a call reporting an entrapment at the Bazinsky Road Sewer Pump Station. According to initial information given to the Vicksburg Daily News, a Sewer Department employee fell into the sewer access near the generators, where a team was performing maintenance. Engine 8, paramedics, the Sewer Department, and Vicksburg Police Department units responded to the scene.
The man managed to keep his head above the liquid after falling in, and rescuers used a chain hoist to pull him out. He was then taken to the hospital.
“The Vicksburg Fire Department responded to a call at the Bazinsky Road Sewer Pump Station, where a man had fallen into the well. When fire and rescue crews arrived, they found a city employee trapped inside the pump station. The Vicksburg Fire Department used an in-place chain hoist to rescue the employee,” said Fire Chief Derrick Stamps.
“The employee’s fall into the pump station became a testament to human resilience as he gathered himself and found the strength to keep his head and body above the liquids,” said Chief Stamps, “His ability to brace himself against the interior walls, with his back against the walls and feet positioned for support, showcased remarkable courage and determination in the face of adversity. This was a truly heroic act, demonstrating the indomitable spirit of the individual in the pursuit of survival.”
