Mary Ann Murphy: 1946-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. — Mary Ann Murphy went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22, at St. Dominic Hospital following a brief illness. She was 79. She had worked for the Vicksburg Warren School District under ABM Industries. She was a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Eva Hall Walton Sr.; her husband, George Murphy; her brothers, Albert Walton Jr., Robert Walton, Samuel “Mule” Walton, and Johnny Walton; and her sister, Carrie Walton Cruthirds.

She leaves to cherish her memories her son, Demond “Greedy” Murphy; her daughters, Donya “Tessie” Murphy-Reed and Dione “Pooh” Murphy; her brothers, James B. Walton and Sterling Walton; her sisters, Patricia Wiggins, Mary Helen Motley, and Bertha Cruthirds; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and others.

Funeral services for Mary Ann Walton Murphy are to be held on Sunday, June 29, at Greater Grove Street M.B. Church at 12 noon with the Rev. Dennis Redden officiating. Interment shall follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 28, at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m.
