Gwen Campbell Jones Edris 1947-2026
Gwen Campbell Jones Edris, a lifelong resident of Vicksburg, passed away on August 28, 2026. She had a distinguished career with the Corps of Engineers and was active in various local organizations. Funeral services will be held on September 4.
Gwen Campbell Jones Edris, life-long resident of Vicksburg passed away on Friday August 28. She attended H.V. Cooper High School and graduated from Jackson Commercial College. Preceded in death by her first husband Bobby Lee Jones in 1996, Mother Hazel Campbell in 2002, Father John D. Campbell in 1974, brothers Don L. Campbell of Charlotte, Ark. and John D. Campbell of Marion, Ark.
She is survived by her husband Earl V. Edris Jr; sons Jeff Jones of Charolette, NC, Jason Jones and wife Eleanor of Brandon. Also, step-daughters, Elizabeth Edris Rainer and husband Ronny of Brandon, and Heather Byrum and husband David of Dillon, Montana; stepson Stuart Edris of Norman, Oklahoma; Grandchildren: Jessica Lindsey Jones and Brandon Lee Jones of Charolette, NC, Drew Campbell Jones of Brandon, Kayla Danielle Wade of Clinton, Ryan Stephen Rainer of Brandon, Megan Taylor Rainer of New Orleans, Andrew David Bynum, Emma Lousie Bynum of Dillon Montana; Great Grandchildren: Jase Coleman Kabbes and Shepard Ray Wixon of Clinton, Rylee Reeves Rainer and Brooks Michael Rainer of Brandon.
She was employed for over 34 years with the Corps of Engineers at Mississippi Valley Division/Mississippi River Commission and Waterways Experiment Station. Served on a volunteer assignment with the Corps of Engineers Defense Reconstruction and Assistance Office in Kuwait in 1991 following the Gulf War. Retired from the Mississippi Valley Division in January 2003, serving the last 23 years as Administrative Officer in the Executive Office. She was inducted into MVD’s Gallery of Distinguished Employees in June 2007. After retiring she served as a hostess for the Miss Mississippi Pageant for over 10 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Vicksburg and former member of Bowmar Baptist Church where she was involved for over 20 years in the preschool department. Served as a member of the Vicksburg Lions Club, the Corps of Engineers Chapter of the Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary, Riverfront Murals Committee, Vicksburg Convention Center and Auditorium Advisory Board, the Presbyterian Women’s Deborah Circle, and Explorers Bible Study Group.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 4, 9am-11am with funeral at 11am. Services will be held at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home in Vicksburg, MS. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Drew Jones, Brandon Jones, Dustin Jones, Corey Jones, Bill Jones and Brad Warnock.
