Mom battling cancer needs a loving home for her dogs
Kacie Lindsey, the City of Vicksburg Animal Shelter director, has spent a lifetime dedicated to saving animals. Now, she needs your help to find a home for her mother’s two dogs while her mother is battling terminal cancer.
“They just keep finding more and more cancer.”
Lindsey’s biological mom, Amanda, was diagnosed with cancer around a year ago, on November 22, 2022. Amanda is riddled with several different types of cancer. She’s fighting her illness in the best ways she possibly can, but the present outlook is grim. Amanda is currently on dialysis due to suffering kidney failure three weeks ago. “They just keep finding more and more cancer,” said Lindsey. According to Lindsey’s brother, the cancer isn’t curable.
“She’s very upset about giving up her dogs but she’s gotten really, really sick in the last few weeks.”
Amanda has loved and cared for her sweet little dogs, Nala and Seymour, for six years. She’s had them since they were puppies. Nala is a red Daschund with one blue eye, and Seymour is a black and tan Cheweenie. They’re both very loving towards people, dogs, and children. Seymour’s favorite movie is Benji; he jumps up and down on his hind legs the whole time it’s on. He also loves to play. Nala is laid back and prefers a good snuggle in a warm lap.
Amanda has thoroughly enjoyed life with her adorable companions and is devastated about parting. However, she knows it’s best to find loving new owners with time and energy to care for them. “She (my mom) is very upset about giving up her dogs but she’s gotten really, really sick the last few weeks,” Lindsey stated.
“They’re bonded to the point they can’t be separated.”
Nala and Seymour are both heart-worm negative and up to date on vaccines. Paws Rescue is assisting with their future adoption. Tracy Cheney has fostered for Lindsey several times and is currently fostering the dogs.
Nala and Seymour would be best suited in a home with an older couple, but they would also love a home with children. They’re described as “super sweet babies” and “lap dogs.” They’re used to staying in with a gentle human companion. Lindsey also added, “They’re bonded to the point where they can’t be separated and my mom wishes for them to stay together.”
Paws Rescue recently took on Momma Mia from the City of Vicksburg Animal Shelter and they have a wonderful reputation for finding loving homes for dogs. To adopt Nala and Seymour, contact Paws Rescue via messenger by visiting their Facebook page here.
