Murder suspect in custody
Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies along with numerous other agencies captured a murder suspect out of Webster (near Houston), Texas this morning after an all night manhunt.
Yesterday afternoon law enforcement was informed a murder suspect from Webster, Texas may be in our area driving a vehicle that belonged to their victim. The vehicle, a black Nissan Altima with Texas plates was spotted parked on China Grove road. “The individual has one relative who lives in the Vicksburg area and that is the reason they thought he could possibly be here,” said Sheriff Martin Pace. “At about 6 o’clock yesterday evening, we recieved a call from a citizen of a suspicious vehicle on China Grove road. Deputies identified the vehicle as the victim’s vehicle.”
Sheriff Pace clarified the relative of the suspect does not live in the area of China Grove and Highway 27.
Deputies staked the vehicle out for several hours hoping the suspect would come back to it, but he did not. A search was launched into a wooded area adjacent the vehicle and within minutes deputies found a location where the suspect had been bedded down. They found several personal items of the suspect in the wooded area. “At that point we called for additional units and launched an all out search,” said Pace.
K-9s from Warren County and the VPD along with search and K-9 assistance from the Madison and Rankin Sheriff’s office. MHP provided manpower on Hwy 27 in an effort to establish a perimeter. Units searched all night.
“About 12 hours into this search, Deputy Daniel Thomas and Andrew Clemts were manning a checkpoint at the interstection of China Grove and Highway 27 when they observed the suspect walking on Highway 27, just north of their location,” said Pace. “The suspect was taken into custody without incident.”
Authorities in Webster, Texas have been notified. The suspect, Marcus Jamar Thompson, 29, Webster (near Houston), Texas, will have a hearing in Warren County today and will be extradicted to Webster, Texas.
“I really wanted to thank the assisting agencies. This is a very bad actor and we were concerned for the safety of the citizens in that area and what he may do to try to obtain transportation out of there. I appreciate the assistance of the other law enforcement agencies that assisted. And of course all of my guys, but also the citizens of that area,” said Pace. “We appreciate the citizens tolerance of us searching their yards and their cars and everything. We were searching every vehicle that passed on China Grove road. We searched vehicles at every out building, literally all night long. The citizens were very cooperative and understanding and we all appreciate that. I’m glad he’s in custody.”
