Old Vicksburg Bridge Open to Pedestrian Traffic on Wednesday

VICKSBURG, Miss. – The old Vicksburg bridge will open for pedestrians on Wednesday, November 27, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Now only a railroad bridge, the old Mississippi River bridge was closed to motor vehicle traffic in 1998. Since then, the bridge’s narrow two-lane road opens for pedestrian traffic only on special occasions, including Supper on the ‘Sip, United Way of West Central Mississippi largest annual fundraiser.

The bridge was built by the Vicksburg Bridge & Terminal Co. and opened May 1, 1930. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
