One dead on Highway 3
An early morning accident on Highway 3 has claimed a life.
At about 5:45 a.m., a vehicle traveling west on Hwy 3 hit the back of an 18-wheeler parked on the roadway due to an earlier accident. The sole occupant of the vehicle was initially trapped in the vehicle. A Highway Patrol officer was on the scene of the earlier accident and immediately called in the second accident.
The original accident happened at around 4 a.m. and was at the southern/western entrance to International Paper. The fatal accident happened a couple of hundred yards north/east of that entrance just over the top of the hill.
Coroner Doug Huskey was at the scene along with numerous Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies and Northeast Fire Chief Zach Hearn in 503. Rescue and paramedics worked to retrieve and assist the victim of the accident. Several units of the Highway Patrol showed up later to investigate the accident.
