Reuben Talbert: 1935-2025

NATCHEZ, Miss. — Reuben Talbert passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025. He was 89 years old. He was born in Fort Necessity, LA on November 3, 1935. He was an avid reader. He loved playing chess. Most of his life he was self employed, working a variety of jobs and businesses from a water well service, to a Mexican import business.

In his later years he sold watermelons during the summer and firewood during the winter. He was a very focused hardworking man. He was cut from the old school boot leather that never let a break down of the equipment or anything keep him from getting the job done. After surviving cancer, he spent his last 6 years in nursing care where he kept the staff and residents entertained with his humor and wit. He had developed a mild case of dementia and he could never understand why he couldn’t fix his truck and go back to the life of hard work that he knew so well. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son, Pastor Bill Talbert (Andre) of Vicksburg, MS; brother, Ralph Talbert (Betty) of Avinger, TX; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He is preceded by his parents, Charlie and Mamie Talbert; mother of his children, Doris Waldrep; son, Richard Talbert; brothers, Roger Tolbert of Natchez, MS and Billy Ray Talbert of Slidell, LA.

A graveside service will be held and officiated by Rev. Joey Paul at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Natchez, MS on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:00 A.M.
