schc july 26 movie night featuring O Brother Where Art Thou?

VICKSBURG, Miss. – To help celebrate their 30th Anniversary, the SCHF will host Movie Night on Friday, July 26, showing O Brother, Where Art Thou?

There will be a cocktail hour from 6 p.m. -7 p.m. that will include a live performance of popular songs from the movie. Also, there will be a cash bar, 50/50 Raffle, and a Silent Auction.

The movie will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10/person and are available on Eventbrite.com in advance and at the door.

The film is set in rural Mississippi in 1937, and it follows three escaped convicts searching for hidden treasure while a sheriff relentlessly pursues them. Its story is a modern satire which, while incorporating social features of the American South, is loosely based on Homer’s epic Greek poem The Odyssey.

Filmmakers shot the banquet scene from O Brother, Where Art Thou? in the auditorium of the Southern Cultural Heritage Center from July 10 through July 13, 1999. They also shot scenes from Mississippi Burning there.
