VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius High School has named Carson Smith and Samantha Edwards as the 2024 Male and Female Athletes of the Year. The honors were announced Wednesday night at the school’s annual athletic banquet.

Smith, a multi-sport standout, excelled in football and baseball. As the starting quarterback, he led the Flashes to the playoffs. On the diamond, he posted a .386 batting average—highest in Warren County—along with 39 hits and 30 RBIs, helping St. Aloysius finish 17-14.

Edwards starred in cross country, track and soccer. She captained the Lady Flashes soccer team to the first round of the playoffs and won the South State Championship in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.

The Male Athlete of the Year Award is sponsored by De’Michael Harris, while the Female Athlete of the Year Award is sponsored by Lauren Hall.

Both students earned multiple honors over their athletic careers. Smith was a three-time All-County and two-time All-District football selection, and he led Warren County in batting average, hits and triples in 2024. Edwards, a MAIS 5A cross country champion, also earned MVP honors in track and soccer and competed in the MAIS All-Star Soccer Game.

In addition to their athletic success, both maintained strong academic records and completed hundreds of service hours.
