St. Aloysius Softball Sweeps Yazoo County in Summer Scrimmage
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The St. Aloysius Lady Flashes softball program picked up a pair of summer scrimmage victories Monday, as both the junior high and varsity teams defeated Yazoo County at home.
The varsity team earned a 3-0 shutout win behind a dominant pitching performance from freshman Mallory Spencer. Spencer struck out 11 batters and allowed only three hits over the course of the game, setting the tone for the Lady Flashes’ defense.
On offense, Megan Theriot led the way with an RBI single. She also scored a run and recorded a stolen base. Madison Spencer contributed an RBI and caught a runner stealing from behind the plate. Madison Connelly also notched a hit to support the offense.
Yazoo County’s pitching duo of Lily Andrews and Anna Leal combined for eight strikeouts, with Andrews fanning five and Leal striking out three in the loss.
In junior high action, the Lady Flashes edged Yazoo County 5-4 in a tightly contested game. Joy Dement pitched a strong outing, finishing with seven strikeouts. Kennadi Blassingame delivered the highlight of the day with an inside-the-park grand slam, accounting for four of the team’s five runs.
The Lady Flashes will face Yazoo County again next Thursday in a road rematch.
St. Aloysius is led by head coach Mike Foley, now in his third season. The varsity team is coming off a 9-15 campaign in 2024 and returns most of its starters after graduating only one senior. Freshman Mallory Spencer is expected to lead the team in pitching this season.
