St. Aloysius to open football season against Discovery Christian tonight
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — St. Aloysius High School will begin its 2025 football season tonight when the Flashes host Discovery Christian in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The matchup marks the first time the two programs have faced each other on the field. Discovery Christian, known as the Lions, is entering its first year of playing 11-man football after previously competing in 8-man football.
For St. Aloysius, the season opener signals the start of a new era under head coach Bumper Brogdon, who was promoted after serving as an assistant coach last year. Brogdon inherits a team that finished 3-9 in 2024 but managed to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
The Flashes will be led by senior quarterback Sadler Lambiotte, who is stepping into the starting QB1 role for the first time in his high school career.
Discovery Christian comes into the game following a 4-7 campaign last season in which the Lions finished fourth in their district and missed the playoffs. Despite their record, the Lions will look to test the Flashes in their first full 11-man contest.
St. Al has not won a season opener since 2022, making tonight an opportunity to break that streak and build momentum ahead of next week’s matchup with Tri-County. A win would not only give Brogdon a successful debut but also set the tone for the remainder of the season.
