Terry Wong honored after leading Warren Central swim team to state title
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Terry Wong, head swim coach at Warren Central High School, was recognized Monday for leading his team to a state championship. Wong was honored during a championship parade in Vicksburg, where he, his swim team and the Warren Central football team were all recognized for their successful championship seasons.
Near the conclusion of the event, Vicksburg-Warren School District Athletic Director James Lewis presented Wong with a certificate of appreciation. Members of the swim team who were in attendance joined Wong on stage and proudly wore their state championship medals during the presentation.
The Vikings captured both the boys’ and girls’ state swimming championships in October, marking a historic achievement for the program. Prior to the state titles, the boys’ team won three consecutive district championships under Wong’s leadership, establishing Warren Central as one of the top swimming programs in the state.
At the state championship meet, two Vikings earned individual first-place finishes. Avery Greer won the 200-yard freestyle, while Jacob Byrd claimed first place in the 500-yard freestyle, contributing key points toward the team’s overall championship performance.
In addition to his role at Warren Central, Wong also serves as the head swim coach at Vicksburg High School, continuing to impact and develop student-athletes across the district.
