The City of Vicksburg held public budget hearing last evening
VICKSBURG, MS. – The City of Vicksburg held their public budget hearing held last evening. The meeting was led by Mayor Flaggs and Alderman Monsour, Alderman Mayfield was not present for the meeting.
In the discussion, the mayor announced a budget reduction of approximately $750,000 from last year citing Baxter Wilson not being online. The current proposed budget for FY 2025 is $31,376,157, down from $32,524,491 for FY 2024.
In the public budget hearing, the Mayor announced that all city employees who currently make $50,000 or less will receive a 3% increase, effective October 1.
The General Government personnel cost for FY 2025 will $3,777,951
Both Mayor Flaggs and Alderman Monsour stood by the fee increases to both the City Pavilion and the Ardis T. Williams Auditorium.
“I think if the people look at it, they’re going to understand that we’re way down the list when it comes to cost of using the pavilion,” Monsour said.
Alderman Monsour said that he would be providing comparative numbers with other cities regarding the pricing of a fair use price for the pavilion.
In a press release sent out this morning, the Mayor stated: “The adjustments to the Auditorium and Pavilion rental fees are necessary to cover the rising costs of maintenance, upgrades, and operational expenses. These facilities are essential parts of our community, and we are committed to ensuring they remain in top condition for everyone to enjoy. The increased fees will help us continue providing high quality services and amenities, ensuring that these venues meet safety standards and deliver an excellent experience for all users.”
