VHS and WC fell short on their basketball games on Tuesday
Vicksburg, Ms-Vicksburg High School boys and girls’ basketball team took losses to Holmes County Central on Tuesday night. Both games were decided within the last minute of play.
Girls:
The Missy Gators took a 77-75 loss to the Lady Jaguars.
VHS went up 18-16 in the first quarter and by halftime, they were up 43-33 as Zion Harvey and Cynia both scored 16 and 15 of those points, respectively. Harvey completely took over the second half as she scored 14 points in the third quarter alone which eventually gave VHS a 64-54 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Kenley Henderson knocked down a clutch 3-pointer in the fourth quarter but Johnson eventually fouled out as well. The game found itself tied 75-75 within the last few seconds as the Lady Jaguars got the final points from a layup to win the game.
Harvey led VHS with 35 points and Johnson pitched in 17. Henderson scored 10 points and NyKeria Watson added five. Rh’Tasia Greer led the Lady Jaguars with 23 points while A’Jah Davis and D’Nylla Keys both scored 11 points.
Boys:
VHS fell short 56-50 against Holmes County Central.
The Gators trailed 18-15 in the first quarter as Jaquez Jones and Jadarius Henderson both hit a couple of shots. By halftime, they were down 34-29 as DeCorey Knight Jr. kept the game tight with two early 3-pointers.
Javeion Perkins and Knight nailed second-half 3-pointers and Brycen Jones profited from the free-throw line but the Gators fell short of the win.
Jones led with 15 points and Henderson added 11. Knight finished with nine and Jones scored eight points.
WC Boys:
WC boys took a 57-48 loss to Northwest Rankin. DJ Gibbs scored 22 points while Davon O’Neal and Robert Williams both scored eight each.
WC Girls:
The Lady Vikes took a 57-17 loss.
