VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg has secured a $453,000 Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant from the Mississippi Department of Transportation to support the development of Golding Park, according to a press release issued by the Mayor’s office today.

The funds will be used to launch key pedestrian infrastructure improvements, including new sidewalks, walking paths, and enhanced lighting, aimed at improving safety and accessibility.

Though still in its early planning stages, the Golding Park project is expected to serve as a modern, inclusive recreational space that fosters outdoor activity, community connection, and neighborhood revitalization.

“Golding Park is an investment in our community’s health, growth, and future,” Mayor George Flaggs Jr. said. “This grant helps us move one step closer to delivering a space that encourages families to get outdoors, connect with one another, and enjoy the benefits of a safe and well-designed public park. I want to thank Commissioner Willie Simmons and the Mississippi Department of Transportation for recognizing the importance of this project and partnering with us to make it possible.”

The TAP program, administered by MDOT, provides federal funding for community-based
projects that enhance pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure and support more walkable, livable
communities.
