Vicksburg Boys claim Region 2-5A Title
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg High School boys’ track and field team captured the Region 2-5A championship after producing seven first-place finishes under head coach Paul Wilson Jr.
Casey Brown led the Gators in distance events with a first-place finish in the 800 meters, clocking in at 2 minutes, 17.85 seconds. Fa’Darrius Davis added another win in the field events by taking first place in the pole vault with a mark of 9 feet.
Thomas McKnight turned in a strong all-around performance, winning the 110-meter hurdles in 15.10 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 42.29, while also placing third in the long jump. Dayquan Warfield contributed two individual titles, winning the 200 meters in 21.81 seconds and the 400 meters in 47.10.
In the throwing events, Jayden Woods claimed first place in the discus with a throw of 151 feet, 9 inches, and finished second in the shot put at 44-9. Shaun Archer also scored in the discus, placing second with a throw of 128-4.
Marquis Knight earned second-place finishes in both the long jump (21-5.50) and triple jump, while Malik Jackson placed third in the pole vault. James Warfield added points on the track with a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.60 seconds and a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.
Vicksburg’s relay teams also played a key role in the championship effort. The 4×100-meter relay team of Landon Prentiss, Dayquan Warfield, Thomas McKnight and Nash placed second with a time of 42.36 seconds. The 4×200 team of Prentiss, Warfield, Stewart and McKnight also finished second in 1:29.67.
In the distance relay, the 4×800 team of Brown, Cable, Thomas and Butler earned second place with a time of 8:47.90. The 4×400 relay team of Prentiss, Marquis Knight, Butler and Brown finished third.
