Vicksburg High baseball star Chris Green signs with Southern University at New Orleans

Vicksburg High School baseball star Chris Green signed a collegiate scholarship to play for Southern University at New Orleans. Green made everything official on Friday when a signing day was held in his honor.

Green was introduced to the game of baseball by his father at the age of six. He went on to enter Vicksburg Junior High where he played on the varsity team as a seventh grader.

As he emerged as a high school athlete, Green quickly led VHS to back-to-back District Championships as a sophomore and a junior.

“Being so young forced me to matured myself and the played a big role in my career,” Green said. Winning those district championships was very special and that’s something I’ll always remember.”

In varsity baseball, Green was named Team MVP as well as making the All-District Team four years in a row while also being selected to play in the Under Armour Baseball Factory Tournament as a sophomore.

In 2023, he racked up a .383 batting average, three doubles, and 19 stolen bases and then bounced back with 20 hits, a .345 batting average, and 20 hits as a senior. He also had a standout performance against Manchester Academy where he struck out 12 batters and allowed zero walks, and he went on to throw three straight complete games.

Green chose SUNO over schools like Alcorn, Dillard, and Jackson State and various amount of junior colleges.

“Since I was young I told my mom that I would get out of Mississippi for a while so when I got out there I liked their program and it was a no-brainer,” Green added.

Green played his final season under Head Coach Kent Willis where the Gators advanced to the first round of the playoffs.

“I want to personally thank Coach Willis for giving me this opportunity to play for him,” Green said.

Chris is the son of Chris and April Green and he will be majoring in political science(Pre-law).
