VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Intermediate School (VIS) has earned Tier 1 Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Model Site status for the 2024–2025 academic year. The recognition highlights the school’s commitment to positive student behavior and academic culture.

REACH MS, a division of The University of Southern Mississippi’s State Personnel Development Grant program, awarded the distinction after an assessment on March 27. VIS scored 98.2%, with perfect scores in six of seven key PBIS areas.

Dr. Kasey Boyd, a behavior specialist with REACH MS, praised the school’s efforts. “You all have done a great job building your PBIS systems and procedures and decreasing student discipline,” Boyd said.

VIS emphasizes clear behavior expectations, a strong reward system, and consistent consequences. Students earn LiveSchool points, merit-based incentives, and participate in monthly PBIS parties. Staff receive weekly treats, shout-outs, and “Staff of the Month” awards.

The school will receive a $500 incentive, a PBIS Model Site banner, and lapel pins for all staff. VIS will also be featured on the REACH MS website.

“This recognition reflects the hard work and shared vision of our faculty, staff, and students. We’re proud to be a model for positive school culture,” said Principal Lakesha Batty.

To keep the Model Site status, VIS will submit discipline data every nine weeks and continue PBIS reviews. The school joins other top Mississippi schools in promoting consistency and student success.
