Vicksburg Junior High remains undefeated with 12-10 win over Clinton
Vicksburg Junior High School improved to 3-0 with a 12-10 victory over Clinton, scoring a late touchdown and making a crucial defensive stop. The win keeps VJHS undefeated and in first place in the west division of the Little Six.
Vicksburg Junior High School improved to 3-0 on Tuesday after pulling out a 12-10 win over Clinton with a late fourth-quarter touchdown and a final defensive stop.
The Gators went into halftime trailing 2-0 after surrendering a safety, but their offense broke through in the third quarter. Quarterback D’Chance Thigpen found Sam Jackson for a 32-yard touchdown pass to put Vicksburg ahead 6-2.
That score remained until late in the fourth quarter. Clinton scored a go-ahead touchdown with 2:10 remaining to take a 10-6 lead.
Vicksburg answered quickly.
The Gators drove down the field before Thigpen delivered a 15-yard touchdown pass to Cameron Pickett, putting Vicksburg back in front 12-10.
The defense also responded with one final stop, keeping Clinton out of the end zone and securing the victory.
The defensive line played a major role in the win. Rush Sudds finished with six tackles, while Arzaevion Stewart recorded four tackles and one tackle for loss. Kaden Robinson added three tackles.
The win puts VJHS in first place in the west division in the Little Six.
Vicksburg Junior High will host Brandon next Tuesday.
Vicksburg High School’s ninth-grade team also faced Clinton on Tuesday but came away with a loss. Mike Davis recorded an interception for Vicksburg, while Brandon Smith Jr scored the Gators’ lone touchdown.
